10 keys that shape Christian leadership and ministry

Number 3: Lead a clear gospel vision for the future
The church is a rescue ship not a cruise ship. We all work together to see as many people as possible rescued from sin and death through the only one who has conquered both of them. Cruise ship churches are all about your comfort and self-indulgence. Rescue ship churches are all about rescuing as many people as possible. (NB: As anyone who’s been on a grand and noble task like that with others knows, you end up growing yourself along the exciting and infectious journey)
We must show as many people as possible the amazing majesty and glory of Jesus by proclaiming the gospel in passionate, contagious and authentic worship and community and therefore making as many disciples as we can. The only way to do that is to cast and lead a very clear vision for the future. If there are hundreds of thousands of people living within 15 mins drive of your church then pray that a leader might have a vision for reaching them with the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. You may even be that leader.
One of the great joys of Christian leadership is casting and leading a clear gospel vision which infiltrates every area of church and brings everyone together, united in the one cause and heading in the same direction. What more noble adventure could you give your life to than seeing more and more people standing with the risen Jesus Christ on the last day, rescued from sin and death and delighting in Him for all eternity. If Psalm 16:11 really is true – “in His presence in fullness of joy and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore” – then there’s nothing better to aim at. God’s big picture end time vision must drive us.
If you’re a Christian leader then make sure you pray for, articulate, cast, and lead a clear gospel vision for the future.
